1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7
Classic 67 Cougar XR-7
Vehicle located in Hartsville, SC. Ad ID# 25818
This vehicle had 3 owners; the original purchaser, my grandfather, and me. This vehicle has been in no accidents and has no body damage. I began "freshening up" this car in 2002 after getting out of the Army. I got deployed, married, and had children. Hence, I have to part with my first love. Silver is not the original color. Originally, it was a sage gold color. This never drew as much attention as the silver has. This gold paint was very expensive and difficult to find someone local that could paint the car. I opted for "Vapor Silver" which belonged to the 2002 Mustang. The motor and transmission were fully torn down and rebuilt in 2002. I kept the original 289 V-8 block and altered a few things to get some extra ponies out of this cat. I estimate the engine to be at 312 cubic inches because it was bored .40 over. I changed the manifold from the original 2 bbl to a Holly mid rise. The original 550 carb had seen its better day and it was changed to a Holly 750 dual feed. The heads were machined and given aluminum flat-head racing pistons. The cam was changed from the smooth idle to a mid idle. You gotta make an impression at the stoplight. There are dual exhausts with Flowmaster mufflers and chrome tips to give this cat its purr. This car came from the factory with a rare surprise. It had a 302 crankshaft. This engine compartment is not perfect. I ran out of time and resources to make it shine like the show cars. The AC is intact, but nonoperational. With Freon becoming more difficult to find and the amount of time I actually drive the car. The cost was not reasonable. There is a small leak in the power steering hose. The power steering functions well when fluid is present. It may drain a little when the car sits unoperated for a long time.I found it easier to add some fluid before a cruise. The vacuum line for the head lights has not been fixed. I found no mechanic that could work on the lights to make them operational. The car functions much better when driven on a regular basis. I do not have the time like I used to.The radiator and gas tank was replaced in 2002. The vinyl top needs to be refreshed. It is in pretty good shape with no tears. There is some discoloration from pine sap that I had to remove a few years ago while I was deployed. The interior is close to perfect. I have the original cat floor mats and the front seats have only one worn place per seat-very minor. There is a leak in the firewall consistent with most old Fords. Have never been able to locae it to get it fixed. I sent it to a few good mechanics and body people during restoration. This is only a problem if left in heavy rain. She likes the sun better. There is a Pioneer sound system with a 12 disc CD changer in the trunk. The rear bumper has a small rust spot about the size of a small coin. It is easily covered with some polish. There is no known body rust.
